This article provides you with a practical 5-day itinerary for Lauterbrunnen and its surroundings. Each day is dedicated to a special theme:

This way you can pick out exactly what interests you the most - or spend the whole week experiencing a wide variety of activities. The order can be changed flexibly depending on the weather, and all recommendations are accessible straight from the campsite.

Lauterbrunnen is famous for its spectacular waterfalls – and rightly so! On your first day, you'll dive into the thundering, roaring wonders of the valley. From gentle mists to mighty glacier falls, here you can experience the sheer power of water up close.

Morning: After already marvelling at the Staubbachfall from your campervan or accommodation, you can - in summer - walk behind the waterfall. In around 10 minutes, you’ll find yourself in a manmade gallery behind the fall, looking out over the campsite and across Lauterbrunnen. 

Late morning: The Trümmelbach Falls – glacial waterfalls inside the rock – are an easy walk (approx. 40 minutes) or a 10-minute bus ride from the campsite. On site, you reach the thundering torrents via a tunnel lift or stairs.

Afternoon: Stroll leisurely back from the Trümmelbach Falls to the campsite. All along the Lauterbrunnen Valley you can marvel at waterfalls plunging from the cliffs – suitable even with a pushchair.

TIP: After rain, the region’s many waterfalls are even more impressive.

Evening: Back at the campsite, enjoy views of Staubbachfall – maybe with rösti or fondue at Weidstübli, or a drink at the summer bar on the village square.

Today you’re heading up high! Surrounded by snow-capped four-thousanders, you’ll explore lofty mountain trails with stunning panoramas. Schilthorn, the Thrill Walk and car-free Mürren show you just how impressive and tranquil the Alps can be.

Morning: From December 2024, take the world’s steepest cable car from Stechelberg to Mürren. Then switch to the new Funifor up to Birg and from there up to Schilthorn (2970 m). Soak in the 360° view of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and enjoy breakfast at the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant. (Reservation recommended)

Midday: With full bellies, descend one stop to Birg station: test your nerves on the Thrill Walk with its glass floor, attached to the mountainside. Extra features such as a crawl tunnel, glass floor, rope or cattle grid add to the excitement.

→ Entry to the Thrill Walk cliff path is free. Due to ongoing construction works, the Thrill Walk may be closed at times.

Afternoon: Continue by train to Mürren and discover the car-free village with views of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. From here, you can either

• Continue on to Stechelberg and take the bus back to Lauterbrunnen or

• Walk to Grütschalp and on to Lauterbrunnen or

• Take the train to Grütschalp and then down to Lauterbrunnen

In summer, all these routes can be done on foot, letting you discover the region's hiking trails. In winter, some hiking trails become ski slopes to explore in a different way. You'll find more information at our reception or online.

Today is all about the Bernese Oberland’s two famous lakes: the turquoise Brienzersee and the deep blue Thunersee. In between is Interlaken – the area’s lively heart. Perfect for those who love nature mixed with a touch of urban flair, plus viewpoints and lakeside promenades.

Morning: Start your trip to Interlaken Ost, then continue by bus or boat to Iseltwald, a picturesque village directly on Lake Brienz. Walking along the lakeside promenade or detouring to the “Crash Landing on You” pier is a real highlight for photo fans. Optionally: take part of the way by boat.

Lunchtime: Back in Interlaken, stroll along the main street, explore little boutiques or Swiss souvenir shops – or enjoy lunch with a view of the Jungfrau if the sun's out. Looking for adventure? Watch paragliders land right before your eyes.

Afternoon: In the afternoon, take the bus from Interlaken Ost to Lake Thun. At the Neuhaus lakeside promenade, brave a swim if it’s warm enough. A side trip to Camping Alpenblick, one of our partner sites, as well as the Blockhus Bistro, is worthwhile! Got energy left? Take the funicular from Interlaken Ost up to Harder Kulm – a grand viewing terrace awaits, overlooking both lakes, and perhaps even a beautiful sunset.

Day 3 – Lakes & City Life around Interlaken

Today things are a bit more relaxed: discover typical Swiss mountain villages, wander through pretty lanes adorned with flower-bedecked balconies, and enjoy spectacular viewpoints above the valley. 

Morning: Take the cog railway from Lauterbrunnen up to the car-free village of Wengen, known for its wooden chalets, flower-trimmed balconies and peaceful atmosphere. Savour the view over the Lauterbrunnen Valley from Mönchblick, stroll through the village street, and linger over a coffee with a view.

Afternoon: Back in Lauterbrunnen, switch to a PostBus for a 10-minute ride up to Isenfluh – an idyllic mountain hamlet at 1,100 metres. From here, take the little, almost nostalgic cable car towards Sulwald. This cable car has existed since 1975 and holds eight people – or one cow. Many say this is where the best view towards the famous three peaks can be found. For your return, you can take the cable car back or the ‘monster scooter’ option.

Evening: The PostBus brings you back to Lauterbrunnen and after a final evening stroll, you can unwind in comfort at the campsite.

For the final day, a real highlight awaits: the Jungfraujoch, Europe’s highest railway station, or – depending on the weather – an alternative Alpine adventure. The perfect way to round off your trip in style.

1. Start at Lauterbrunnen Station
You can reach Lauterbrunnen station from the campsite on foot in about 10 minutes. Ideally, depart before 8 a.m. to avoid the crowds.

2. By train to Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg
Board the yellow rack-and-pinion train of Wengernalpbahn (WAB) towards Kleine Scheidegg. It passes through Wengen and stunning mountain scenery with first-class views. Journey time: approx. 40 minutes.

3. Change trains at Kleine Scheidegg
Here you change onto the historic Jungfrau Railway, which snakes up through tunnels and bends to Jungfraujoch at 3,454 m above sea level. The ride takes about 40 minutes.

4. Arrival at Jungfraujoch
At the top you’ll find:

• the Ice Palace with its artistically carved sculptures

• access to the Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in the Alps

• shops, cafés, and even a Lindt chocolate world

Tip: It’s cold up there and snowy (even in summer!), so take a jacket. Also pack sunglasses as the snow reflects the sun strongly.

• The region is superbly connected by train, bus and cable car – you can reach many excursion destinations without a car at all

• It’s about a 10-minute walk from Camping Jungfrau to Lauterbrunnen railway station

• Bus lines take you directly to places like the Trümmelbach Falls or Isenfluh

• For all excursions, especially hikes: Sturdy, non-slip footwear is a must! Trainers are usually not enough – lightweight hiking boots or trekking shoes provide more safety.

• Even in summer, temperatures at Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn may fall below 0°C – bring warm clothing!

• For all walks: hiking boots, sun cream, water bottle and perhaps rain gear should be in your daypack. Many fountains in the valley provide drinking water – perfect for topping up.

• Set off as early as possible to avoid queues – especially at Schilthorn, Jungfraujoch, and Trümmelbach Falls.

• Pre-book online for Jungfraujoch if possible.

• For many attractions you can show digital tickets on your phone – free wifi is available at the campsite.

• You can also buy some tickets at the reception

• Weather can change rapidly – especially in the mountains. Check the local forecast every morning (e.g. MeteoSwiss app).

ℹ️ Important to know for your excursions

Start your day looking up at sheer rock faces with cascading waterfalls, and end it sleeping beneath the starry Alpine sky. Our campsite is at the heart of the famous Valley of 72 Waterfalls – the ideal base for all the excursions in this itinerary.

🔌 Comfortable pitches for motorhomes & campervans

The campsite offers pitches with electricity, many with fantastic views of surrounding mountains and waterfalls. Access roads are solid and suitable even for large vehicles. Some pitches even come with water and waste connections.

⛺ Pitches for tents in the midst of nature

If you’re travelling with a tent, there’s space to relax on grassy areas. The ground is mostly level, the area is peaceful, and in the morning you’ll be woken by the babbling of the Lütschine or the rush of Staubbachfall.

No tent or caravan of your own? No problem! Camping Jungfrau offers a wide range of accommodation, suitable for couples, families or small groups depending on the category.
